Default Drake SW8 on ebay

Radio-Mart has an SW8 on ebay with an incredibly misleading description.
He states that the serial number (4H12950015) is a late number and that
the radio is "one of the last ones produced." Anyone who knows these
radios will recognize this to be more correctly one of the EARLIEST of
the SW8 series from the first 6 months of production in August of 1994
with no sideband selectable synchronous detection, limited LW frequency
range and no whip antenna pre-amp - significant improvements that
greatly added to the functionality and value of these rigs. His comment
about "peering through the plastic bag" to read this number is
laughable, as his photograph shows it sitting unwrapped!

If you're looking for an SW8, wait for a truly later model offered by an
honest seller with a serial that begins with at least 6B.

The SW8 never had a whip pre-amp. Drake improved the impedance match of
the whip antenna to make it more sensitive. The Grundig Satellit-800,
which was based on the SW8, does have a whip pre-amp.

What happened to the Red Curtains ??? I see they are now white. In most
circles, white represents virginity and purity....much the opposite of our
friend Martin.

I once owned a late serial SW-8 but sold it because it ate batteries and the
display was fading and becoming intermittent, a common SW-8 problem as I see
now others are reporting the same problem.

A better alternative is to buy an E-1 eton, I see Universal radio is
offering several, used, in the $350-$399 range.

This information should set off an alarm:

Feedback: 97.5% Positive

Forgetting for the moment that we all know of RadioMart's rep, why should a
97.5% positive feedback set off alarms? Seems like a high % to me! I mean,
you're always gonna have some people ya just can't please (according to Abe
Lincoln), so I would thing that, given that fact, again 97.5% seems good!

If you are a regular eBay user, you know that anything less than 99%
is an issue. In my experience, most folks have 100% positive feedback
or very near to it.

I am a regular ebay user, and believe me when I say, Abe Lincoln was right,
and due to human nature you will get people that complain whether you treat
them right in your opinion or not, and anyone with a 100% rating is nearly
unheard of.

I've had a 100% rating since I joined Ebay almost ten years ago. It's
not that rare.

In eBay terms, that's pretty low. That, in addition to keeping all his
feedback "private" so you can't see comments, should set off alarms even if
he didn't have the reputation he does.
