HOTSHEET FOR WEDNESDAY APRIL 4, 2007

-- RADIO ONE --

1. THE CURRENT:

The Florida Keys weather millions of adventure-hungry tourists every
year. But now the region is bracing itself for a greater stress -
climate change. This morning, The Current takes you to the Keys... in
the last documentary of a special series on places you should visit
before it's too late. Also...is the Orange Revolution coming undone?
Just two years after he was brought to power by popular protests,
Ukrainian President Vicktor Yushchenko has dissolved Parliament. A
look what the move may mean for the stability of that country, on The
Current, with Anna Maria Tremonti, this morning at 8:30 (9:00 NT) on
CBC Radio One.

2. SOUNDS LIKE CANADA:

You've heard about the Alberta boom. There's construction going on all
around Edmonton, including underneath the city. Sounds Like Canada
comes to you from Edmonton today, with guest host Peter Brown. And the
ever-adventurous Peter gets dropped a hundred feet underground, in a
cage, to see for himself, as construction crews build a tunnel under
the North Saskatchewan River to deliver water to a new subdivision.
For those of you who suffer from claustrophobia, remember that this is
Radio. That's Sounds Like Canada, this morning at 10 (10:30 NT) on CBC
Radio One.

3. FREESTYLE:

Singer/songwriter Randy Newman saw fit to make fun of Short People,
but very tall people also take their share of dumb jokes as well.
Today on Freestyle, meet the president of the Vancouver Tall Club.
That's Freestyle, this afternoon after your local noon show on CBC
Radio One.

4. OUTFRONT:

OutFront is focusing on one town this week - Lac La Biche, Alberta.
It's a series of profiles of one smaller community, from many
different perspectives. Today, "The Forbidden Fruit". Fedosia
Plamondon grew up in a closed society where radios and TVs were
forbidden, and if discovered, were smashed. She is from the White
Russian community just outside Plamondon, Alberta. Her life there was
one of strict religious observance, farming and needlework. But all of
that changed when Fedosia fell in love with the wrong boy. Hear her
story on Outfront, this evening at 8:43 (9:13 NT) on CBC Radio One.

5. IDEAS:

The Ideas of Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun tonight on Ideas. From his
beginnings in a residential school in British Columbia to his current
position at the top of the international art market, Lawrence Paul
Yuxweluptun says he paints because it allows him to speak the truth.
He talks with host Paul Kennedy, tonight on Ideas at 9 (9:30 NT) on
CBC Radio One.

6. THE ARTS TONIGHT:

There's a new Korean horror film called "The Host" coming to theatres
soon. And it might be about one or two of the more eccentric on-air
personalities around the CBC. But not Nora Young, who is an unfair
combination of intelligence, talent and a genuinely wonderful
personality. Nonetheless, Nora teams up with film critic Jesse Wente
this evening on The Arts Tonight to explore the enduring, chilling
appeal of the monster movie. That's The Arts Tonight, right after the
ten p.m. news (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

7. BETWEEN THE COVERS:

Michael Ondaatje's novel "In the Skin of a Lion" continues tonight on
Between the Covers. Patrick's lover Alice has died under mysterious
circumstances. Later, Patrick deals with his grief by finding out more
about Alice's past. That's on Between the Covers, tonight at 10:43
(11:13 NT) on CBC Radio One.

8. WRITERS & CO:

This week on Writers and Company, host Eleanor Wachtel talks with
Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mark Strand. The former Poet Laureate of
the United States talks about his very early years in Prince Edward
Island and Nova Scotia, and how poetry can give expression to
emotional incoherence. That's Writers & Company, tonight at 1 (11:30
NT) on CBC Radio One.

-- RADIO TWO --

9. HERE'S TO YOU:

(no advance info available)

10. STUDIO SPARKS:

(no advance info available)

11. TONIC:

Hear some classic tunes sung by sometime real-life lovers Marilyn
Monroe and Frank Sinatra today on Tonic. Guitarist Russell Malone
plucks romantically at your "Heartstrings", and pop song wizard Burt
Bacharach teams up with the late, great Dusty Springfield "In the Land
of Make Believe". That's on Tonic, with Katie Malloch, this evening
at 6:00 p.m. (6:30 NT) on CBC Radio Two.

12. CANADA LIVE:

Alexander Mickelthwate leads the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra tonight
on Canada Live, in a program that includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 3,
the Eroica. Also on the program, The Chairman Dances by American
composer John Adams, a work inspired by Nixon's historic trip to
Beijing to visit Chairman Mao. Later, an intimate jazz concert from
Winnipeg's Park Theatre featuring the Roy Kirby Lowe trio. That's on
Canada Live, with Matt Galloway, tonight at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC
Radio Two.

13. THE SIGNAL:

Hear the music of Gavin Bryars tonight on The Signal - his 'Porazzi
Fragment' performed in concert by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as
part of the 2007 New Creations Festival. You'll also hear the late
night sonic wanderings of Colleen (the alter ego of twenty-something
Parisienne Cecile Schott) and her ramshackle collection of found
instruments and playful tunes. That's on The Signal, with Laurie
Brown, tonight at 10 p.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio Two.

-- TELEVISION -

14. CBC NEWS - THE FIFTH ESTATE:

Experts say there is a potential 'road-rager' inside every one of us.
Road rage injures or kills more and more people every year. Tension
fuels anger, anger fuels aggression...and according to the people who
keep the stats, aggressive driving may be a factor in nearly two-
thirds of all fatal car crashes. Tonight, the Fifth Estate wraps up
its season with encore presentation of a program that sparked
tremendous reaction - Gillian Findlay's report on road rage, titled
"Road Warriors". See it on CBC News: the Fifth Estate, tonight at 9
p.m. (9:30 p.m. NT) on CBC Television.
