Sony sw77 problem

Hi all
I have a Sony sw-77 and it appears to be acting up.
It seems to have a problem in the power dept, now I'm not sure if it's
because of the batteries, as I have cheap things in it at the moment, but
its still the same with the ac power supply fitted, it sort of crackles and
goes quiet for a few seconds, then sometimes it sounds as if it drifts off
frequency, but then it comes back again, it is an intermittant problem, but
very annoying, any ideas anyone please
tia
Clive

I've had problems with the coaxial(barrel connector) power jack on
various equipment. The connections to the circuit board go open because
it gets stressed a lot with the plug and cord getting moved or bumped
and the only thing holding it in place is solder. And in some stuff,
there's a switch to disconnect the battery built into the power jack so
that supply goes through that same problematic part.

Wiggle it and see...

Hi Mark
Yes,I see your point, it does crackle a bit when I move it around.
I think it could be a problem with the voltage stabilizer, as it sort of
goes haywire from time to time, getting the same symptoms you get when
batteries are running low, also it goes ballistic when you push the light
button.
Further investigation I think is needed
thanks
Clive

A suggestion, if you've not gone this route already: Try posing this

You say "getting the same symptoms you get when batteries are running
low" and you originally stated "it's because of the batteries, as I have
cheap things in it at the moment".

Clive, you may have solved your own problem--mightn't you consider
changing the batteries??? That would seem to be an obvious first choice...

Hi Tommy
yes, I wasnt very clear on that I'm sorry. I have tried 2 sets of brand new
batteries in, and also with the mains adapter plugged in, but the problem
remains
