Default US ABC radio now onwed by Citadel

The TV network contiinues to be owned by Da Mouse. (no, not the one in
Future Martyrs Club on Hamas TV)

ABC started back in 1943 when the FCC used to believe that radio
consolidation was bad and made NBC sell its Blue Network.

I would guess at some point, Citadel will change the call letters of
stations with the same call (except for -TV) as Disney TV stations in
the same city. (e.g. WABC, WLS, KABC and KGO)

In xomd cases when TV and radio stations have split ownership, and
there sas a three letter call, one of the stations added an additional
W or K. (WWOR near NYC, KKOB in Albuquerque/

Do you really think that they'd change many of those historic calls?

It's been done before. When KGW AM was bought by CC, they got rid of the
call, one of the oldest in the NW. Several other stations with calls over 60
years old have gone in the past few years.

As I remember the reasons, the three letter calls are reserved for
maritime shore stations. So the only Medium Wave broadcasters that keep
them are "grandfathered" stations that don't change their call letters.

Iin 1953, ABC dropped its historic NYC radio call WJZ for WABC. WABC
had previously been the call of WCBS - CBS obtained it from the
Atlantic Broadcasting Company. Westinghouse had started WJZ in Newark
in 1921, and now picked up the call for its Baltimore TV station. The
TV station was an ABC affiliate but, of course, it became a CBS O&O.

Of course, by now, the NYC radio call has its own history, especially
from the golden age of AM rock radio. (http://www.musicradio77.com)

By the way, there is a history of WABC (including the NBC shortwave
facilities at Bound Brook, NJ) at
