The basic fact for us down here is for the past 82 years we have, and still, derive significant revenue from our sky-wave coverage area and we are committed to protecting that tradition. I do look forward to the discourse after September 14th when the evidence and data is documented. I also look forward to working with our coalition of broadcasters whether it is to find solutions or seek damages. Best regards, Watt Hairston WSM-AM, Grand Ole Opry, LLC. What was that you were saying, Eduardo ? He was saying whatever he was making up (out of thin air) at the time. One station. There are 4800 AM stations, About 5 make money from skywave coverage, and most of the rest have reduced coverage at night due to interference. |

Prior to the 1980s AM radio at night was KILLER! What killed skywave night radio reception was the proliferation of FMs in local markets that offered similar formats without interference and with better quality. It had nothing to do with Reagan. In fact, the only possible detriment to skywave listening then was the 70's decision to break down the 1-A clear channels and to add 1-B stations to each (like KRVN in NE on 880, WCBS's home). |
