So much for interesting and expanding program base. So much for the Clear Channel concept which would be very useful in the case of REAL NATIONAL EMERGENCY. Considering that most of the AM superstations can cover at least half the country if not more, I wonder what they will do if TSHTF. I'm sure that doesn't matter as profits reign over the consumer or people in general. Interestingly, they use statistics that say that their listenership base is this or that. However, I wonder if they really know how many outside of the major metros listen to night time AM. I don't care what some so called book of statistics says because statistics can say anything you want it to. However, I find it blatantly stupid to sabotage one of the greatest means of long distance communication we have in this nation which is the clear channel broadcasting system. I guess it helps the media conglomerates and the government in that they can centalize information further. That way if TSHTF no one knows when the satellite dishes take a hit from Chinese space missiles or some other country using an EMP device. |

I wonder what the people will do for information if the worst case scenario happens and we have to rely on the FM broadcast network which is laughable at best. I guess after getting slammed by terrorists, we can all find a talk show or some blatantly stupid program to listen to instead of things that really matter like the safety of our country. It is about like the 2003 power outage in NY and a lot of the Eastern parts of the country. I wonder if Dwardo has a plan if something like that happens on a larger scale. I'm sure all those set top satellite boxes, TVs, and all will be usable in a power outage of any magnitude. I guess when we burn those bridges to analog AM clear channel broadcasting, we can rely on the HD Radio to carry us through. I hope it never happens but with the state of the world these days, it would be best to be prepared. Not to mention keeping an SW radio around with batteries, solar power, etc. You just don't know. As well as writing your congressman and giving them a piece of your mind about the destruction of the public airwaves by the HD Radio plotters. This is quite intentional when you consider that they knew through testing and experimentation what havoc it would cause. When you cannot listen to a night time station 70 miles from you, you have problems especially at 50 kw such as WABC. |

Well, that's all very interesting Mr. Digital engineer so how come some TV signals are received over the air first or received from a satellite first. That, plus though the cable (or often, fiber optics) is underground in many (not all by a LONG ways, mostly only in downtown and newer suburban locales that already have buried utilities), the headend equipment is not.. nor is said equipment, in most cases, backed up by generator. This is because if the headend power goes down, it's most likely that the power grid in the area of the headend is ALSO down, so the signal doesn't make it beyond the headend.. Most americans wouldn't even think to get the old AM radio out (if they even have an AM radio... my latest Ipod is FM only). I guess he doesn't realize that MOST AMERICANS are not youngsters.. there are a lot of us boomers around, and as of right now, we're still the largest segment of the population, and will be for some time yet, since only the fringe of us are starting to die off now, and we have a while to go (Korean War boomers are only now getting into their mid-50's). |
