Professor Robert Correll, chairman of the Arctic Climate Impact
Assessment

http://www.acia.uaf.edu/

said that newly invented ice penetrating radar showed that the melt
water was pouring through to the bottom of the glacier creating a melt
water lake 500 metres deep causing the glacier "to float on land.
"These melt water rivers are lubricating the glacier, like applying
oil to a surface and causing it to slide into the sea. It is causing a
massive acceleration which could be catastrophic."

Correll stated that one particular glacier puts enough fresh water
into the sea in one day to provide drinking water for a city the size
of New York for a year.

Correll believes that the estimates of a 20 to 60 centimeter sea level
rise this century from the IPCC report in February had been
"conservative" and feels that it would be at the upper end of this
range at a minimum. Some scientists fear that number could be 2 metres
(200 centimeters), which would obviously have catastrophic effects for
European and U.S. coastlines.

A moulin is the name for a giant hole in a glacier in which millions
of gallons of melt water can cascade through to the rocky surface
underneath the glacier during the melt season.

Why am I bringing this up now?

It's hard enough getting to work on The Subway, filled with filth,
panhandlers, Kids with Drums, Standing room only.

If the FKUCING Glacier melts, the subways will flood, and we'll all
have to commute by Rowboat..

( Then again, the kids with drums will all drown . . )

Happy Sunday . .

Had an interesting discussion with some friends Friday nite about Gore
winning the Nobel prize. I'm still not sure what he won for. My
friend was contending that he increased awareness of global warming -
my question was - so has the hole in the ozone gotten smaller - are
emissions down by any noticiable percentage.?? And I followed with "
if we were going to award the ENVIRONMENTALIST OF THE YEAR to
someone, I'm sure there are others out there more deserving. He
wanted to know who I had in mind - and was blaming my dislike on Gore
as a REPUBLICAN/DEMOCRAT issue. Trouble is: I do know someone who has
done more to promote environmental health than Gore ever will be able
to do. He finally told me he was bored by the discussion. But I'm

A few things were ( Possibly ) wrong in Gores film;

The shrinking glaciers on Killamenjaro are Probably due to land use
changes;

- People cutting down rain forest, which generated moisture to feed
them, replacing it with farm land which doesn't
put out that much moisture;

But over all, I believe hes right; the planet is heating up, due to
mans activities.

- And it isn't just C02 . Deforestation is changing how the planet
stores / releases sunlight.

expect more deforestation to result in hotter, drier weather in parts
of the world that were tropical.

This will add heat to the atmosphere, slowly heating up the oceans,
which will slightly expand;
etc.

- but what's a foot or two rise in sea level, anyway? Doesn't affect
you;

right ?

A few things were ( Possibly ) wrong in Gores film;

The shrinking glaciers on Killamenjaro are Probably due to land use
changes;

- People cutting down rain forest, which generated moisture to feed
them, replacing it with farm land which doesn't
put out that much moisture;

But over all, I believe hes right; the planet is heating up, due to
mans activities.

Wrong! Al Gore is mentally ill, and if you believe him, you may be in the same
boat.

A few! How about the premise for starters!

- People cutting down rain forest, which generated moisture to feed

put out that much moisture;

But over all, I believe hes right; the planet is heating up, due to

- And it isn't just C02 . Deforestation is changing how the planet
stores / releases sunlight.

expect more deforestation to result in hotter, drier weather in parts
of the world that were tropical.

This will add heat to the atmosphere, slowly heating up the oceans,
which will slightly expand;
etc.

- but what's a foot or two rise in sea level, anyway? Doesn't affect
you;

right ?

I just checked Google Earth and found I'm 11 feet above sea level so I'm
good. Thanks for the concern.

Let me see if I can find how much above sea level I am.There are some
hills around here, but not real hilly hills, mostly flat land.I think I
can find my latitude and longitude.It's a multitude of tudes, I think.

One of those websites says I am 294 feet above sea level.
That website is a lying sack of s..t! I couldn't be 294 feet above sea
level.I live about 140 miles North of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.Less
than that in a straight line.

The highest point in this State is a Hill by the name of Woodall
Mountain 806 feet.
But, a Hill is not a Mountain.In Wales, they measured a Hill the local
folks over there were calling it a Mountain.So they started toteing some
dirt up the side of that Hill and got it high enough to be officially
called a Mountain.It is a True Story.

Cuhulin,

Jackson, Mississippi -USA-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson,_Mississippi
Center 'Coordinates' 32°19 14 N -by- 90°12 16 W
Elevation 279 Feet (85 Metres)
.
That would be 129 Feet below the Al Gore "High Water" Mark
{~ 400 Feet} Raise in AMSL due to Melting Ice as a result of
Global Warming.

Hey RHF;

Theres a magazine called " The New Yorker"; - kind of a funny & often
literate rag. Published J.D. Salinger,
James Thurber, Charles Adams Cartoons, ( When they were all alive)
Etc.

In any case, they had an article on Global Warming.

Heres a link to the interview of the author. 2 pages long, not t tough
read.

http://www.newyorker.com/archive/200...n_onlineonly01

Small quote below.

" Q: I was very struck by your description of the work being done by
Donald Perovich, a government scientist, who measures something called
albedo. What is its significance?"

A:

" Albedo is a measure of reflectivity. The ice in the Arctic, and also
in the Antarctic, reflects a tremendous amount of sunlight back into
space. This is a very significant factor in shaping the earth's
climate. In the Arctic, the ice, and particularly the sea ice, is
melting, and this is changing the earth's reflectivity. More heat is
being absorbed, which is causing more sea ice to melt, and so on. This
is a good example of positive feedback. It's taking a relatively small
change to the system and amplifying it into a much larger one. There
are several positive feedbacks in the climate system that are known,
and quite possibly others that haven't yet been identified, and all
are cause for concern.

"

Best,

Barnegatedx

There was a time, long, long ago when it rained on Earth continuesly for
over a million years.Steady non stop raining.I reckon at one time the
whole Earth was completly covered with water.All of the Mountains didn't
used to be there.Earthquakes and Volcanos created them.Aint't it a
