I live in the Las Vegas area which has about 15 AM stations and 25 FM stations. The Eton 1 could barely bring in about one-half of those stations. Just incredibly poor reception. The whip antenna made very little difference when it was extended. I don't have an outside antenna; it was just plug and play - and it didn't pick-up that much to play. I mean here's a worldband radio that can't get stations 30 miles or less away. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance. Make sure that the antenna switch is set to internal and the pre-amp is turned on. An indicator "DX" will appear on the display if the amp is on. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

Thanks in advance. - - Make sure that the antenna switch is set to internal - and the pre-amp is turned on. On the Left-Side of the Eton E1 Radio there are actually two separate Antenna Switches : * Antenna - HF for LW, AM/MW and Shortwave (HF) - This Switch is pushed-up for "Internal" which leaves a small gap at the bottom next to "External" * Antenna - FM for the FM Radio Band - This Switch is pushed-up for "Internal" which leaves a small gap at the bottom next to "External" # 1 - Batteries / Power : Check to see that you installed all the "D" Batteries correctly. A full set of 'new' Alkaline "D" Batteries are recommended. -Battery Test- Turn the Radio "On" {Power On} and wait about 10 Seconds. You should see the "Signal" Meter reading the Signal Level of what ever the Radio is picking-up. Now press the "Light" Button on top of the Radio. You should see the "Signal" Meter become the "Battery" Meter with "Empty" on the Left and "Full" on the Right. You should have 21+ Bars for a new set of Alkaline Batteries and at least 18+ Bars for a fully charged set of NiMH "D" Batteries. -IF- You do not see these Numbers : Test Each of your Batteries. 2 - Getting To Know Your Radio With The Owner's Manual : Take the Radio and the Owner's Manual out-side away from your House and other structures -or- go to a Park; the Beach etc. -Note- A nice comfortable Plastic Chair and Wooden TV Tray/Table makes this a more relaxing experience. * Put the Radio on the Wooden TV Tray/Table. * Put yourself in the Chair. * Open and start reading the Radio's Owner's Manual. * Fully Extend the Whip Antenna and Turn-On the Radio. * Now begin Getting-to-Know your Radio. Remember - The Owner's Manual : IT'S IN THERE ! # 3 - Eton Customer Support - HELP ! Hello - New Eton E1 Radio Owner's Eton Corp {Grundig USA} Customer Support ?
