Actually *I can't find any Sony SW radios anywhere *(I'm in

What would you folks recommend then ... for about $150?.
Is the Grundig G5 any good?
Many thanks.

I don't think Sony is technically making the 7600 any more. But I
think there is a lot of inventory out there. It's a good radio for
sure. But also look at comparable offerings from Kaito/Degen such as
the DE1103.

What are you talking about? We were telling him how to clean the earphone
jack on his radio -- not his ears.

If he never uses earphones, he may still need to clean the earphone jack
because it contains a switch to cut out the speaker, and if the switch
contacts get dirty, the speaker stops working.

the problem isn't that theres no sound coming from the speaker ... the
problem is that it is very very weak, no matter how loud the volume
thingie is turned up.

Right, just what you'd expect if those contacts are dirty, so that there is
a high resistance in series with the speaker.

so ... how would i clean those contact ... someone i think suggested
sticking a qtip into the hole where headphone jack goes ... shud the
qtip be dipped in alcohol or some other cleaning fluid?

If you have headphones, the first thing I would try is just plugging the
headphones in and unplugging them several times. If this helps, you're on
the right track and 1 drop of rubbing alcohol on the tip of the plug would
be the next move -- then plug it in and unplug it repeatedly. I don't think
a Q-tip stem would be particularly helpful since it wouldn't come in contact
with the contacts.

Next step would be to open up the radio and see if you can actually get to
the contacts.

If the headphone jack is the same as in the ICF-2010 (2001), then, sadly, it
is a unique item no longer available from Sony. With my ICF-2010, I worked
out a way to use a commercially available one, with circuit modifications.
Lacking an ICF-7600 service manual, I don't know what to advise, but the
problem is soluble.

That's assuming it is the headphone jack.

The local Sony dealer in Calgary checked his web site and told me it's
discontinued. Old inventory seems to be the only solution.

RadioGuy & Mike,

FWIW - Check-Out the Sony-Style .Com website

The Sony ICF-SW7600GR AM/FM Shortwave Radio
[FM Stereo Multi-Band World Band Receiver(tm) Radio]
is currently Listed as 'being' "In-Stock".

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId=11037231

Note - Usually the first thing that Sony {USA/NA} does
when an Item is Discontinued is to Drop the Item from
the Sony-Style .Com website.

hope this helps ~ RHF

So, what the heck are you doing? You KNOW you have to get Pre-Approved
for any posting. Smarten up, will ya...

Like a mentally ill Canuck would know anything about that!

When are displaying all your QSL cards? Word has it you don't actually
have any. Please put them up on a web page, along with your discharge
papers. We need to affirm you aren't lying.
