This may be a dumb-assed question to ask but why are there so many fundamentalist Christian broadcasts in English on shortwave? Well I suppose the obvious answer is because there are a lot of interested listeners willing and able to tune into the religious broadcasts on HF. Once upon a time the same question could have been asked about government sponsored broadcast stations like the BBC. Additionally, since most churches are on a tight budget the relatively low cost of an HF broadcast allows them to cover a larger area than would be possible with multiple FM or MW broadcasts. Finally long range HF broadcasts would be of interest to those churches who want to broadcast their message overseas. |
