Garth - You want to Test the Coax Cable by itself.

TESTING YOUR COAX CABLE :

Remove the Coax Cable from the Matching Transformer
and the Radio.

Bring the two ends of the Coax Cable close together and
Examine the Coax Cable for Damage along it's Length
and around each of the End-Plugs.

Test - Center Pin -to- Center Pin : You should have
Continuity {Short 0~1 Ohms}

Test - Outer Shield -to- Outer Shield : You should have
Continuity {Short 0~1 Ohms}

Next take each of the PL-259 Plugs and;
Test - Center Pin -to- Outer Shield : You should have
No-Continuity {Open Infinity 10^10 Ohms} for both.

TESTING THE MATCHING TRANSFORMER :

First think about them : They are basically two Coils of Wire
wrapped around a Ferrite Core. The Wire in each if the Coils
is only maybe a Foot to a few Feet Long. If you were to Test
each of these Wires by themselves they would read Zero Ohms
-because- After all they are Short pieces of Copper Wire.

The Pictures of your "World-Listener SWL End-Feed Antenna
made by NW Antennas shows a Matching Tranformer in a
PVC Pipe Housing with an SO-239 Plug on one-end and the
Wire Antenna Element coming out of the other-end.

* Two Transformer Windings with a Common Ground at the
Outer-Ring of the SO-239 Jack.
* So you have three possible 'Connections' to Test for Continuity
{Near Short} [Good] -or- NO Continuity {Open Circuit} [Bad]

Question - What is Electrical Continuity ?
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-elec...continuity.htm

Testing the Primary (1) Winding of the Matching Transformer :
Center Pin -to- Outer-Ring of the SO-239 Jack should be
Continuity {Near Short}.

Testing the Secondary (4,9,X) Winding of the Matching Transformer :
Outer-Ring of the SO-239 Jack -to- Wire Antenna Element
should be Continuity {Near Short}

Testing Both Windings of the Matching Transformer :
Center Pin of the SO-239 Jack -to- Wire Antenna Element
should be Continuity {Near Short}

=IF= You have NO Continuity for any of these three Tests
then you have a "BAD" MatchingTransformer.

hope this helps - iane ~ RHF {pomkia}
