How is it that a SW receiver ended up at a model train show? Maybe I need to start going to those shows? I run into that kind of cross sales, all the time. And it's the best possible purchase environment. Very limited market for the product, so the price doesn't spike. I've bought a couple of really nice radios at non-radio hobbycraft shows. One was a T/O 3000-1 for $25. Occasionally, a seller has an odd or an end, and they bring it out to the show thinking that there may be someone who would relieve them of it. This guy bought it as a serious DXer, and found that his condo association was less than sympathetic. He'd never taken it out of the box. That's not to say it was new. Just that the seller had never used it, himself. If you're interested in bargains, they're out there. Just look where most people wouldn't. I'm liking this Drake. Handles very nicely. And filter selection, for fixed filters, is quite good. Cleans up a messy band but quick. |
