Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are? Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago ? When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines ? Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks? Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets? When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a "vanilla" Iowa , because that's the way God wants it? Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism? Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people? How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again? (via a friend) Where is Rush Limbaugh? Where is Sean Hannity? Where is Glen Beck? Where is Bill O'Reilly? Where is Lars Larsen? Where is Mike Gallagher? Where is every local yokel talk radio on every friggin station in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, et.al. (all of whom are CONservatives)? I heard the Drug Addled Gasbag bloviating about this, (correctly) praising the heroic response of Iowans, and (incorrectly) darkly implying that the problem in Katrina was the stupid and lazy dark- skinned people in Louisiana rather than the stupid and lazy leaders at the very top who sat back and did nothing as a city full of people drowned because they didn't own cars or were hospitalized or infirm. Disgusting. Actually it was the leaders at the bottom who sat back and did nothing, Including the totally idiotic Mayor of New Orleans, who personifies 'dumbass'. The ultimate responsibility for response to a major disaster is FEMA's. This is by necessity, because few if any states have the resources necessary to cope with a disaster of this magnitude, and it would be ridiculous (and grossly inefficient) to expect each of the 50 states to duplicate all the equipment and infrastructure to cope with a massive disaster. Sorry, but you're passing the buck. The blame is squarely on Bush and the Republican congress, which created DHS and made FEMA a subordinate organization. Then when a disaster hit, the President, Vice President, Chertoff as the head of DHS, were DERELICT in their duty to oversee a coordinated response with local and regional resources. It's RIDICULOUS to blame the mayor of New Orleans for something that's Bush's fault. |
