No. It's like RTTY, only with lower case letters and backspace.

Trust the drunk to associate ham radio with 'psychic' phenomena. I
notice the lower case lettering is in addition to the formerly all caps.
display. Neat.

Despite what you two think radio teletype has a fully character set with
upper and lower case.

If you want to discuss transmitting go to one of many amateur news
groups.

Ham Radio 'existed' before the so-called "Sound Card".
For that matter Radio was 'history' way before the "Sound Card".

- The point of amateur radio is to not "just listen",
- but to transmit as well. *There are several "digital"
- modes that use a PC sound card, and these are
- a hoot. You can "listen" to PSK31 very easily:

- It's quite the sensation; *you can work the world

the point of shortwave radio listening (swl) is to . . .
listen to the radio - be it voice or code ~ RHF

The word "listen" doesn't appear in the name of the group. *The hobby is
about technical skills. *Any mouth-breather can buy fancy radios and
string up a wire and hear a 100,000 (and up) Watts radio station from
the other side of the world; *it takes a lot of skill and a lot of luck
to see someone typing on a keyboard in New Zealand working the Pacific
Northwest on 5 Watts.

-*PSK31 is more efficient than CW.

You don't have to transmit to listen to RTTY or PSK31.
