Hurricanes bring good DX

I am in Hobe Sound Florida, one mile from the ocean, and for some
strange reason, MW DX is coming in from the Caribbean, last night I
picked up WDHP, US Virgin Islands and other other antilles. I guess
that is the only good thing about these damned hurricanes!

During emergencies some MW stations do not cut back power at sunset.

That's about 1200 miles from you Bob = nice catch and well done.
I can sometimes get it from our Seefontein DX site on my Kiwa loop and
the Icom. WDHP is 10 Kw day and 1 Kw night time power.

What time did you get it in UTC/zulu?
And what radio and antenna were you using?

John,
I was up in the wee small hours, around 2am EDT, using a 40 foot wire
and my old Hammarlund HQ-145XC. I also checked the frequency to make
sure I was right by using the AMLOG but it was booming in with station
ID on the Hammarlund. Gotta love those old boatanchors!

But doing so requires an STA from the FCC; in extreme emergencies (like a
daytimer being only local station) the FCC tends to be understanding if a
station operates at variance.

The night Gustav hit New Orleans I was easily able to hear WWL 870 kc using
SRIII
I'm about 900 land miles away, and 60 miles from KRVN 880 kc (very
powerful),
so it takes a decent reciever for me to resolve them.
