That device is illegal. *200 mW goes a lot further than 450 feet. Dave - Both UL and CE Certified. -wink-wink- The 200mW might be the Total Operating Power of the Unit and not just the Output Power. One flaw so far is that it is only 'mono-phonic' and not Stereo. However the "Whole House" Gold FM Transmitter is "Stereo" -but- it only has a simple short Wire "Whip" Antenna. which really limits it range. http://www.wholehousefmtransmitter.c...tion-p-39.html Someone should design a small FM Transmitter that uses (can take) a standard FM Folded Dipole Antenna http://www.gnnradio.org/fmdipole.jpg made from 300 Ohm Twin-Lead for the broadcast Antenna : Set it up Vertical {Omni} or Horizontal for E2W or N2S coverage on your property. http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/misc/1268.jpg ~ RHF |

That device is illegal. 200 mW goes a lot further than 450 feet. Also it is not stereo. However it can transmit on any frequency from 88.1 to 107.9. I use the "Whole House FM Transmitter". Stereo, great sound and I get about 1/4 mile range using just the supplied 4 foot antenna on 107.9. However it is limited to 7 frequencies (106.7, 106.9, 107.1, 107.3, 107.5, 107.7, 107.9). Both are roughly the same price, with the "Whole House" usually a little bit less. It comes down to what frequency you have clear and whether or not you can live without stereo. |

It looks to be about 48" BTW: Part 15 requires that the antenna cannot be easily modified. |

This is most likely the case, and a lot of that 200mW is probably wasted in heat in the voltage regulator circuit. BTW.. if you do the math, Part 15 allows approximately 10uW on FM... not much, and certainly nothing like the 100mW that many seem to think it legal. Clue: From a spot above average terrain, 100mW on FM can be heard many miles away. (not well in all cases, but I guarantee, it can be heard, even in stereo.. ) One flaw so far is that it is only 'mono-phonic' and not Stereo. A Vertical Slinky Jr. that was extended from Ceil-to-Floor with the short little Transmitter Wire coming Horizontal to it and and attached at 32" from the Floor seemed to work the best. ~ RHF |
