The prerequisite of learning Morse code would rule that out for them -- Operator Bob Echo Charlie 42 Personally, I have no issue with the advancement of technology, although our leaning on it does present potential problems not if, but when the infrastructure to power it fails. HOWEVER... For radio, it is a solution in search of a problem. The vast majority find the current analog modulation schemes more than adequate for what the medium is used for. The addition of, or move to, digital schemes offers very little positive, and quite a bit of negative (in terms of useful coverage, cliff effect, etc. and the tendency of corporate entities to choose quantity over quality.) Sure, for a few, an extra feed or two on an FM IBOC channel is a nice thing, but the vast majority don't care. The sheeple are fully formed to the corporate ideal of what the medium should be, and the small quantity of program selection that they provide. For those that don't conform, mp3 players and internet radio are the choice of the masses, and radio in general is no longer even considered (hell, I gave up on broadcast radio except for news years ago, and I'm not even considered a part of the demographic anymore. Corporate broadcast radio just has nothing to offer to anyone that wants to hear more than a 200 track playlist and endless advertisements...) |
