Thanks for the heads up, but I think I'll pass this time.
As much fun as it is to get new gear,
I just can't justify that radio at this time.
It doesn't do anything that my other radios don't do,
plus it lacks some features that I consider essential.
About the only feature I might enjoy is the auto tune and store,
but that's only useful if you move or change antennas often. Besides I
already have an Accurian AV receiver that does that and I find myself
going through the queue and deleting stuff it hit on that I didn't
want.
My ideal portable would be the excellent eTón E1 receiver capability
and
WWV clock synch, but with the addition of IR remote control, HD
decoding, and something that none of my current radios do, SCA and
DRM.

Isn't SCA illegal to monitor?

- You mean such as Muzak and the like?

Muzak has not used SCA distribution for decades... it is wired or via
satellite.

Interesting article, and there are others. As I recall, Bruce Elving has
sold, and may
still sell the mod kits for various radios. He also has published the FM
Atlas and
Station Directory for a good number of years.

I have two pocket portable radios designed for SCA reception (68 and 92
KHz). Both have regular FM and a switch on the back to go between FMBC and
SCA, with another switch on the front to go between SCA frequencies. Both
are sold widely in the US.

It is illegal to monitor SCA broadcasts in the USA.

1. Illegal to monitor cellular phone transmissions
2. Illegal to monitor cordless phone transmissions
3. Illegal to monitor scrambled/encrypted signals
4. Illegal to monitor SCA signals
5. Illegal to monitor voice paging signals
6. Illegal to monitor remote radio-TV broadcast signals
7. Illegal to monitor outside residence in a few states
8. Illegal to monitor by convicted persons in a few states
9. Illegal to monitor in vehicles in some states
10. Illegal to manufacture cellular-capable receivers
11. Illegal to modify to receive cellular signals
12. Illegal to import cellular-capable receivers
13. Illegal to use as an aid in commission of crime in most states
14. Illegal to use information heard for personal gain
15. Illegal to disclose or publish information heard to third party
(for signals which are NOT "readily accessible to the public")

Thanks for the heads up SC, I'm going up there tomorrow to pickup
another set of headphones. I'll read up on that piece and see what the
reviews say and check it out.

Yea, I know that. I maybe used the bad choice of saying the word sale.
I should have said that Radio Shack is now selling them. Got to see
one today in the RS here. And it does look really good. I guess
production problems have been solved (rumor says the Earthquake in
China last year really cut down the production).

I agree, it does look attractive.

I'm hooked on the portability of the G5 and G6. The S350 is my bedtime
SW radio. So the 750 looks nice but I really don't have the need for
it and it won't do anything more than what I got now.

The G5/G6 is basically the same as the 750, just bigger?

Going to be tough to sell the 750 at $300 bucks at RS, especially if a
novice sees the $100 S350 next to it.

Especially if it isn't any better than the smaller brothers just in a
bigger package.

No, not illegal to monitor, unless you are using such for commercial purposes.

I used to run the radio reading services on my bedside table as I slept
so that I would wake up with the days news having been subliminally
infused into my brain.

Odd thing, though: for a small tabletop radio, it has one, LARGE

I picked up two speakers years ago that is exactly opposite of what
you said. They came from those mobile MRI buses that go to shopping
centers or your place of business. Me and another fella were given
permission to gut the bus after the real expensive equipment was taken
out.

The speakers are called "Quam" and on the speakers it reads "Quam-The
Sound Decision." There were eight inside the walls of the bus, I got
four of them. They were made just for voice, it's pretty cool that
music can sound so crappy but voice sounds scary clear plus, if that's
possible. I have one scanner for each speaker, clearest voice speakers
I've ever owned.

Both of mine came from dollar stores in NY. If you want one, I'd be happy
to send you one. They're useless here (unless I put an SCA on my own FM
transmitter).
