Hi,
Just curious: How popular are these software defined receivers (SDR) these days for general sw listening in the price range of, say, up to $ 1,500 ? The kind that work with one's PC. Haven't thought about them in quite a while. Is WinRadio still the standard for these kind of things, or are there now others also offering them, that are comparable, or better ? Still, there's something really nice about twisting knobs, I guess, but this old fashioned concept really dates me. For a $ 1,500 budget what would you get ? Why ? (for MIL and AM up to 30 MHz mainly; possibly some VHF/UHF if capable) Thanks, Bob |

A friend of mine recently invested in the WR-G305i, and he has nothing but praise for it. Along with a frequency range of 9 kHz to 1800 MHz, the WR-G305i also has a software-defined VHF/UHF receiver on a PCI bus card. The spectrum analyser (real time) is a real positive and a DRM decoder is also available as an extra option to provide some added grunt to the unit. Definitely worth a look Bob as I'm pretty certain something like this would well and truly suit your needs. Kind regards, Brian |

Can you believe this group now? People actually asking radio/antenna questions and people actually answering them? :-D **THIS** is what makes this group great so great IMO. |

There is even a Linux GUI control program for it, rx320. |
