Well, no, Bush served in the Air National Guard; but he ducked a
combat assignment when he was given the chance to go to Viet Nam. This
gave him the opportunity to play hero-fighter-pilot with the Air
Force's multi-million-dollar birds while avoiding the chance of
actually being (horrors!) shot at by unsympathetic men who didn't care
how rich he was.

In any case, Cheney, Rove, and Limbaugh would all tell you that they
served a "higher" calling: telling *other* people where they should
die and what they should die for.
