Do we really think Rush's dittoheads are smart enough to see through him, as obvious as it is to the rest of us? They don't call themselves dittoheads because they can think for themselves. No, they call themselves dittoheads because they love Rush's show. How that got started is pretty simple. And widely ignored, or intentionally misrepresented by such as yourself. Early on in the run of the show, a woman called in and went on for 2 minutes about how she loved Rush, how she thanked God he was on the radio, and on, and on and on....Well, Rush finally got to her point, addressed it, and moved on to the next call. The first thing out of the succeeding caller's mouth was, "What the previous lady said...Ditto." And then he went on to disagree with Rush. As many of his callers do. And from that moment, callers would begin their moments on the show with 'Dittos, Rush.' Meaning, "I like your show." And eventually a wide variety of modified 'dittoes'followed. Like 'MegaDittoes,''Conservative Dittoes,'and 'Conservative, SUV Driving, Cigar Smoking Dittoes.' "Dittoes" do not mean agreement with Rush, only agreement with that first lady who loved Rush's show. Many callers who profess dittoes actually disagree with Rush. As I, myself, often do. That doesn't mean my radio isn't on Rush middays. It means I listen, but I, like most of his listeners, think for myself. And we don't listen to just conservative talk radio. Surveys have shown that many of Rush's listeners also regularly tune in to NPR, and the late, not-so-hot, Air America. |
