That was a great post, I heard a soccer game outside the US once on shortwave, must have been a pretty important game because I haven't heard one since. The announcer definitely knows how to "paint the picture" for the listener. I heard a football i.e. "soccer" game on shortwave a couple of Saturday mornings ago (approximately 1500 utc) on BBC or Australian radio. It takes real talent to make a soccer game interesting that's for sure. Rugby is much more exciting to listen to. The announcers are excellent and they always manage to capture the constant roar of the crowd as the match plays out. Someone posted that they no longer broadcast rugby on shortwave but if you do manage to find a match (best chance would be Saturdays I think) give it a listen, you will get a big kick out of it for sure. |

The Brazilian station(s) often broadcast soccer games...at least they did a few years back when the sunspots allowed them to be heard well. I think Australia also broadcasts rugby from time to time - I just heard such a broadcast two weeks ago. It was, not surprisingly, an Aussie team vs. a Kiwi team. Bruce |
