Default 2 Meters through the window?

Hello,

I need a 2 Meter mobile antenna that gives superb reception above quality
of
transmission. I need really 'good ears' and have used a loaded whip until
now but do not want to drill holes to pass the coax on this particular
car.

I see some antennas on ebay that are 'through the glass' antennas:

How are these for reception in fairly rugged terrain?

How do they hold up to power washes, i.e. do they adhere well under
adverse
conditions?

They always eventually fall off. You can get very good antennas with
RG-174 which is really easy to tuck under window gaskets. That's what I
use for my "no drilling" 2 meter installation.

I've never messed with the seal. Does it return to form after the coax has
been there a few years and then removed? Can it leak and can it be sealed
with silicone or something? How do I know when I am lower than the glass to
go through?

Thanks for replying.
