That is why I am pushing for birth control on a global scale. Population reduction by way of the elders dying a natural old age death and only a few replacements until the global population is down to 'ideally' about 1 billion. At that level we could all have a nice life. Bill Baka Let me shake your hand, Buddy. Perfecto. Good idea, but naturally some religious group will shoot it down. They seem to think quantity is better than quality. Bill Baka First, were the affluent cultures to only eat a healthy amount of meat, the extra grain left would feed everyone else. Secondly, Global Warming is moving the grain belts of Siberia and Canada further north, vastly exceeding the amount of farmland lost to rising ocean levels. All that permafrost melting leaves behind fertile organic soil. Birth control is necessary, but not sufficient. We need to vastly increase the number of smart sociable people to be case workers, nurses, and scientists in Alternative energy or other such problems. Head Start just didnt cut it. The prisons are full of Head Start grads. We need to subsidize fertility clinic services for poor women so that they can dramatically ramp up the number of competent people the next generation will need to deal with the mess we've already created. And from Bouchard's longitudinal study of identical twins adopted out at birth to different sets of parents, we see the fundamentalist religion of the mother will not be kept by talented grown children. They wont be suckers for demagoguery either. |
