Default V. Mongolia, Ulaan Bator, 12085, 22 May 2010, 0900z

** V. Mongolia, 12085 kHz, 22 May 2010, 0900z onward - pretty good
signal, SIO - 242, Japanese - YL with news (I suppose) and music.
Cannot stay up forever, but will see what happens at 0930 when
scheduled to switch to Mongolian. Slight QRM from R. Australia 12080,
but USB takes care of that.

Voice of Mongolia used to be my beacon station for propagation. If it
was coming in good, it was a good day for dxing. During solar cycle 22
I used to have a small inverted vee on the side of a building at work.
I used to pick up the morning transmission on 12015 with my Sony SW-1.

Where (what city) was your job? I've never heard VoM except in the
wee hours...

The lower bands were just so-so last night, but propagation on 25
meters and up was certainly good - the band was hopping! Asia and
Pacific Rim were numerous, V. Islam from Malaysia on 19 meters was
better than I can remember.

I stuck with VoM until 0940 or so, after it had switched over to
Mongolian. I had never really heard it as good as this. I wish I
could have stayed up longer, but my eyelids said "nope!"

It was in a northern suburb of Detroit. Remember this was the mid
1980's. VoM used to come in around 1200UT-1300UT (around sunrise
local). I started early and maintained equipment in the building which
is why I was able to put up antennas there.
