Ugh, I can't get it - I don't think. :-( I get 880 but not 890.

WLSAM.com

I listened to WLS around 1960, then after I moved to California they
became not only a non-clear channel broadcaster but changed their venue
from new rock and roll to an adults themed boredom station. PFFFTTT.

I used to get their top of the chart "Silver Dollar Surveys" from about
1958 to 1962, which of course got lost in the move to Crapofornia.

I was a youngster in the 60's,when we visited my cousins in Dowagiac Mi.
they always had WLS playing.
I'm in the panhandle of Fl. now, I can get it a night, but a good signal
only in the winter.

- I have only got WBZ for about 30 second during the
- last 15 years. That was my favorite middle of the
- night station, any body remember the name of the
- host that was on at about 2 am back then?

AMDX,

KTWO came on 1030 kHz in 1967 and WBZ's Clear
Channel Signal on 1030 kHz was no longer 'protected'
nationwide; especially to the west and southwest.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KTWO_%28AM%29

Some also claim that WBZ has changed it's Antenna
http://www.wbz1030.com/
Signal Pattern to better cover it's local along the East
Coast Market Area North-to-South and less East
(out-to-sea); while also reducing it's Western Signal
http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=25444
* Antenna Mode : Directional - 1 Pattern
* Power : 50,000 Watts
* Number of Towers : 2
* Antenna Status -since- 1982

WBZ-AM 1030 kHz -Station History-
http://www.bostonradio.org/stations/25444

WBZ is no longer 'alone' on the Frequency : There
are now or soon to be around 35 AM Radio Stations
on 1030 kHz; and most to the West or South of WBZ.
WBZ only has the right to a 750 Mile Signal before
it becomes and Interference issue with the other AM
Stations on the Frequency.

FWIW - Back in the early 1960s I managed to receive
"WBZ" in Boston using a Hitachi TH-812 (TRF AM/MW
Portable Radio) with an outboard 'inductively coupled'
Tunable Ferrite Rod Antenna Feed by a 65 Foot
Random Wire Antenna.

Hah. Back in Christmas of 1962 my Sister gave me a KOBE/KYO AM radio. It
was so directive I could either line it pu for the weak signal or block
the interfering one. Late at night I got some Mississippi stations and
one from Texas. At 14 I was happy to get that.

Lucky. I never made it far enough out to try to build a set to try to
discriminate. Summers were building yet another set, vacation at the
Dells, or some lake I could go fishing in. Let me tell you, Leech lake
earns it's name after I got out to chest height.

Maybe if I fire up the Hammarlund, but I couldn't find 880 on my
inside radios with no external antennas.
Wow! *He is bragging about thiis great DX catch!

* Truth is, with the noise around here, you often get WLS better
than I do.

Comes in like a 'local' here during the day. Sometimes, at night, and more often in
winter, I do get some selective fading at times.

I listen to WLS for a good many hours during the day.- Hide quoted text -

You can receive 700 WLW can't you? Do you ever get to catch the
personalities on that station? They lost Mike McConnell (Midday Show)
to Chicago - they were trying to lure Bill Cunningham there also - but
he decided to stay in the Nati'. Thank God.

Bill Cunningham is on WLS on Sunday nights from I believe 10 PM -1 AM.

Mike McConnell is on WOOD 1300 on Saturdays in the afternoon, Noon to 3 sounds about
right.
