Then, digital should have already replaced that. A program reading the
input to a sound card, from the audio off a receiver, is probably around
a 1,000 times more accurate, able to decode the signal -- of course I am
just guessing, but I bet I am close ...

Seems you have come up with another good argument to go digital ...
