What is happening to shortwave?

There really has not been much on the shortwave broadcast bands for
the past 10 years. There are still some bible pounders for momentary
fun but that's really about it. The always entertaining survivalists
have all but abandoned shortwave as well. The active days of SWLing
peaked in the 1980's and began a decline. As the internet became a
more efficient way to communicate the falloff in SWL targets declined
even faster. The ham bands are experiencing a more prolonged decline.
