Mexican IBOC - It's Borderblasters, revisited - LOL!
"Mexico OK's HD Radio For Stations Near U.S. Border"
May 21, 2008 - "Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Commission (CoFeTel) is authorizing radio stations within 320 kilometers, or about 200 miles, of the Mexico-U.S. border to begin broadcasting in HD Radio." http://www.radioink.com/HeadlineEntr...&pt=todaysnews "Mexico Says Hang on a Minute!" "Mexico wants U.S. radio regulators to re-think their decision to allow AMs to go IBOC at night and FMs to operate on the extended hybrid digital carriers. Our neighbors to the south say they are not happy the FCC authorized its recent 'final' IBOC rules governing broadcast transmissions without first coordinating those through international treaties." http://www.radioworld.com/article/6410 It's Borderblasters, revisited. Mexico wants to have the option to unleash mutually-assured-hiss-destruction (MADD HISS) in the event the IBOC noise from La Frontera gets too bad. That's all, folks! LMFAO! |

Phase One of IBOC HD-Radio Implementation : {Years 1~5} Mixture of Analog and IBOC Digital Broadcasters with very few HD-Radio Receivers : The Analog Radio Listeners* Notice "The Hash/Buzz" * Radio Listening is both Local and Distant Radio Station Listening. . Phase Two of IBOC HD-Radio Implementation : {Years 6~10} Still a Mixture of Analog and IBOC Digital Broadcasters with a mixture of Analog and HD-Radio Receivers : Still the Analog Radio Listeners* Notice "The Hash/Buzz" -but- HD-Radio Listeners Using HD-Radios Do Not Hear "The Hash/Buzz" * Radio Listening is mostly now Local still with some Distant Radio Station Listening. . Phase Three of IBOC HD-Radio Implementation : {Years 11~15} Mostly IBOC Digital Broadcasters with some Analog and mostly HD-Radio Receivers with some Analog : Majority is now HD Radio Listeners* Who Are Now Using HD-Radios and Do Not Hear "The Hash/Buzz" -and- There still is a few Analog Radio Listeners who still Notice "The Hash/Buzz" when they do not Listen 'Local' * Radio Listening is now almost all 'Local' with very little Distant Radio Station Listening. NOTE : The AM/FM Radio Station Business Model is Built-On "Local" Advertising -and- IBOC Forces All Radio Listening To Be "Local" and Reduces Distant Radio Listening ~translation~ IBOC Is Good Business. -note- A Brokered Radio Program on 500 Radio Stations with an 800# a/o Website is Still "Local" Advertising : That is simply scaled-up by the means of distribution to a nation-wide 'localized' market. and that is the way 'i' see it ~ RHF That's not an unreasonable view. Eventually the allowable digital power is going to be raised to a level where it really does cause unacceptable interference with analog, even locally. So far, if you're listening to local stations, within their protected contour, you're highly unlikely to notice any interference (at least there have been no valid incidences of it that have been reported to the FCC), but for long distance listening there can be issues. Alas, just as getting away with operating components far beyond their maximum ratings for years, then getting a batch that works only slightly beyond their maximum ratings, there was never any guarantee to these stations that they could operate beyond their protected contour forever. |

I saw the prelude to the entire IBOC debacle from the inside. IBOC is a brazen scam. Its primary purpose -- the purpose for which it was designed -- was to preserve the vast signal superiority of the higher-power FM stations over their lower-power FM, and AM, competitors. It was designed specifically to _prevent_, as much as possible, any increase in relative signal quality or coverage on the part of the lower power and AM licensees that might otherwise have occurred. In achieving this goal, IBOC has been quite successful. It has, however, been totally unsuccessful in achieving any of its other highly-touted goals. In the process, it has ruined reception for many thousands of listeners who wanted to hear some of the weaker, but formerly perfectly listenable, stations. The failure (and fraudulent nature) of IBOC, and the earlier failure of AM stereo (and the frauds and self-deception that plagued that debacle, too), are symptomatic of the steep decline of what used to be the most technically advanced society on Earth. With every good wish, Kevin Alfred Strom. --http://nationalvanguard.org/http://kevinalfredstrom.com/- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - You've gotten that perfectly right. A scam right from the start. Luckily, IBOC has been a failure, as far as consumers are concerned, and only 150 FM-HD stations have expressed interest in raising power (only 3 have gone full -10db). So, the vaunted power increase has been a complete flop. At least now, Struble/iBiquity and the automakers are under investigation, and I hope that Struble is eventually prosecuted for criminal fraud. The law firms will at least get him on civil fraud. Expect class-actions from consumers and broadcasters. I'm sure many radio listeners have abandoned listening, as IBOC slowly destroys our airwaves. Listeners will just turn elsewhere for entertainment. I hope that the corrupt FCC, NPR, and NAB get dragged into the investigations. |
