IBM made the first "Desktop" computer in pretty much the same form factor we use today, and with the same basic components. You are entitled to your opinion. I would have voted for any of a number of earlier personal computers from other companies. They did the world a huge favor by not fighting 3rd party hardware and software. IBM did fight and win battles against some of the early clones (but ultimately lost the clone wars). Also, remember the PS/2 and OS/2? Even subsequent ISA PCs had propiertary features that contributed to their doom (as IBM tried to regain "control" of the PC market). |
