I see . A good RF generator is what is needed here . That may clear
things up a little .

An Altoids tin full of coaxial attenuators (aka "Pads") comes in real
handy when using cheap radios with big antennas.

Minicircuits is practically around the corner from me . Are you
referring to Perseus ? That's not exactly a very 'cheap' radio .
Unless, of course, some people gold plate theirs .

Nice! Just curious, what's your farthest trans-Atlantic USA and Canada

USA or Canada? I assume that Hawaii is somewhat possible via trans-
Pacific (?).

The farthet from the Seefontein West Cost Atlantic DX site was 1410
CFUN Vancouver BC Canada 10,000 miles away
1700 XEPE "San Diego 1700" is the farthest in the USA.

From our Indian Ocean East Coast DX site at Jongensgat we hve logged
and QSL'd Japan, Philippines and Guam.

Isn't it like $500? That's pretty low end for a communications receiver
(even with the $300 computer you need to make it work). A radio is only
as good as the front end.

Universal has it listed as $999.95. It weighs just 380 grams. It has a
hot front end, according to the specs and reviews . It is NOT a 'pretty
low end' receiver in my book .

Dave measures everything against his baby, his Elecraft K3. It can do
no wrong :-)

I was confused. I was thinking of this one, which is pretty much the same..

A "hot" front end would definitely benefit from an attenuator upstream.
A preselector would work too, unless you were "panning".
