+AD4 (News) Why is +AD4 there no Channel 1? Early production (1946 or so) TV sets had channel 1. The FCC planned to have VHF-lo radio in some areas and low power TV in other areas. Then the FCC changed their minds and gave the channel entirely to VHF-lo radio. So there was no longer any reason to put a channel 1 on the TV tuners. TV channel 1 was, more or less, the early FM band. There are ALOT more early FM radio survivors than TV channel 1 survivors. Back in the 70s, I could hear the old aircall pagers broadcasting there. There was a cab company using that band, too. Now, it seems pretty much abandoned. Before FM there were a few experimental high fidelity AM stations broadcasting on VHF-lo and high SW frequencies. |
