I have new AA batteries in there and I have tried taking
them out and
letting everying reset and still the problem exists.
I have not tried the paper clip idea though.

I seem to remember somebody in the past installing a small
capacitor across the battery terminals in order to cover short
losses of voltage when the batteries move slightly during normal
use. Has anyone tried this sort of thing?
