I would like to pick up Radio Cuba or stations from Brazil.

Any station playing Jazz etc etc.

Does anybody know any frequencies in the short wave bands
and what time they broadcast so they can be heard from the UK ?

Sounds to me as though you need either
http://www.wrth.com/ or
http://www.passband.com/ -- both are very recommendable.
