FRG-7 or Satellit 800
As a former FRG-7 owner, and as a borrower of a Satellit 800
for a few days, I still like the FRG-7 better. I agree with one poster who did not like the looks of the 800. It was just not pleasant to use. I found no lack of sensitivity in the FRG-7. I was not able to compare the radios side by side. The variable selectivity on the 800 is a good thing, but not as good as in my now 22 year old Kenwood R-1000. For a price of $150 to $175, which is what I have seen the Yaesu receivers actually sell for at hamfests, I think it is a very good deal. -- Charter member of the Church of the Easily Amused Robert (Bob) Davis Amateur Radio K0FPC |

I would choose the '800' over the FRG-7 for that reason alone. However the FRG-7 is a good deal for a beginner. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

I doubt if the SAT 800 would have that problem. And yes, the sync detector is awsome on the SAT 800! Actually, DeWayne, the FRG-7 didn't drift at all -- the reason is
because it was based upon an auto-correcting Wadley loop circuit. If you do a Google search on "Wadley loop" or "Barlow-Wadley" you'll find quite a bit of information about that type of receiver. It was a novel circuit, which afforded terrific accuracy (rare in analog dials on consumer-grade shortwave radios) and zero drift. Randy, WA4FJF "DeWayne" wrote in message ... I always avoided trying a FRG-7 for that reason. I bought a new Panasonic RF-4900 from Gilfer. I could let it warm up for hours and it would still drift nearly two kHz. I couldn't record anything without babysitting. Other than that I loved the 4900. I'd take the SAT 800 over the RF-4900 any day though. DeWayne "DeWayne" wrote in message ...
