Stocks, Dollar Pummeled After G7 Call
Monday September 22, 7:19 am ET
By Nigel Stephenson

LONDON (Reuters) - A slide in the dollar after a weekend call from the Group of
Seven industrialized countries for more flexible exchange rates pummeled U.S.
Treasury bonds Monday and sent shares tumbling in Europe and Asia.

The dollar fell to its lowest against the yen in nearly three years and its
weakest against the euro in eight weeks.

The G7 called for more exchange rate flexibility to help iron out global
economic imbalances and markets interpreted its statement as criticism of
persistent intervention by Asian countries to weaken their currencies and boost
domestic exports.

Oh, my goodness gracious, me!

His horrible secret is finally out! There have been rumors and whispers that
this is true but, now, there is no doubt.

He's one of those heterosexuals!

The shame, . . . the humanity.

We can force the Swarzennegger race to be almost on topic for this group.

A few years ago, a California FM pirate claimed the FCC had no jurisdiction
because his signal was undetectable well before it got to the California
border. I think the pirate lost, but the point is worth considering. How
much control should the Federal government have in matters which have no
effect outside a state's boarders?

When a similar issue with the Feds comes up, would a Gov. Swarzennegger be a
95% er?

"People need somebody to watch over them. . . . Ninety-five percent of the
people in the world need to be told what to do and how to behave."

as quoted from a US News and World Report in the rotten.com article:

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/en...chwarzenegger/

It's more like 100% need to be told what to do and how to behave, but that's
what our parents did.

Yah but that argument blows the heck out of "equal rights".

The guy in California thought he had a point but I'm in Vicksburg,
Mississippi, and I can see several thousands of feet into Louisiana.

Heck, my sneezes are probably heard in Louisiana!

Who thinks that the FCC (Friends of Clear

broadcasters or just flat allow them, e.g.,
Citizens' Band (I came across my CB license
a few months back).

Had the pirate won, and the states became responsible for radio emissions
that couldn't be detected across the boarders, I think the states would just
hand the job back to the Federal Government, anyway.

But I'd like to hear Swarzennegger's and any other candidate's opinions on
such issues. Are there Constitutional issues worth considering? Is it
practical for a state to regulate radio, or whatever within it's boarder? I
doubt a candidate would have a canned answer at hand, but might be able to
cobble up a reasonable answer based on a bit of knowledge and some general
principles.

The problem with states handling frequencies (and power and such) is that we
could end up with fifty "MCC"'s (Mississippi Communications Commission) or
(FillInTheBlank Communications Commission).

Sounds like a tax hike to me sigh.

And a patronage paradise! Think of all the no-bid contracts! Tax increase?
Of course. But, since the local politicians would call it an unfunded
federal mandate, no locals would lose their jobs. Whatta deal!

We have some pretty sharp lawyers around here. I'm a little surprised an
ambulance load of shiny-suited, diamond pinky-ringed sharks weren't sent to
help in the California case..Maybe nobody could arrange the early releases
on time. .
