I believe the 99 uses geribles rather than hamsters thus having the longer tail that pulls in that extra faint signal. You are correct, I had a chance to use a friends 99 on a DXpedition a while back and it really blew the 88 away. The 99 has a built in feeder for the gerbils as well, whereas the 88 does not have that feature for the hamsters. One can always count on a Blap-O-Matic in those tough DXing situations, no matter what model one chooses. Truer words have never been spoken. Nothing like a cold winter night here in Minnesota at a remote cabin with a nice fire, a random lenght longwire hooked to a Blap-O-Matic. The first time I QSLed Radio NibiNibi was using old Blappie, as I called it ,on one of those DXpeditions. Pardon me I am getting all choked up. Greg |

I've read that for picking up those hard to get Pirate transmissions feeding the Gerbils Amphetamines..... ( Voids the factory Warrantee though..) Perky little *******s ! Pics up stations that havent even turned their transmitter on.. |

The radio reception is great out here. The Sat 800 works well. Burr Grundig's Sat800&650,YB400&FR200 Drake SW8 Scanners BC 895&245XLT Sangean DT110(for Ball Games) Also Have a Clock Radio!!! N35.3582 W117.4157 South Left Coast, U.S.A. I sure hope the Sat 800 is more heat resistant than my old Bunsen 451. One day I was listening to Brother Stair, and I heard this loud BANG!! and then smoke started billowing out of it. For a second, I thought the old Prophet had finally called one right. But then I noticed the radio was in the bright sunshine, and must have overheated. Frank Dresser Gee Frank, I was out in my mobile platform and every thing works fine. It was night but it could have over heat from the fire in the stove in the other room. Burr |

You want to critisize people who try to contribute to a specific discussion with a possible general comparision, but you don't find a specific post to critisize? Frank Dresser What contribution? The guy only wanted to hear about the Blap-O-Matic 99, not every other possible radio! If someone asks me about a Drake R8B, why would I tell him about a Sony 7600? Although I didn't cite an actual example, anyone who's read this newsgroup for a while knows what I'm talking about. Sheesh. You eediot! Yea But, my YB400 works fine and I don't think it has anything to do with the Sony 7600. Burr |

Although I didn't cite an actual example, anyone who's read this newsgroup for a while knows what I'm talking about. Sheesh. You eediot! OK, let's keep making stuff up. Say somebody asked about an intermittent display on an R-8. Somebody fixed their Sony 7600 by disassembling it and cleaning some contacts. Is that an exact, step-by-step fix to the R-8's owner's problem? Nope. But it could be useful information. Other R-8 owners may have fixed intermittents in the power supply or the encoder. But that's not a display, is it? But let's say the R-8 owner has a peculiar sensitivity. He's offended by answers that don't address his exact problem in his exact radio. And usenet, being usenet as usual, brings forth many posts of imperfect relevance. Dammit! Maybe nobody has had this exact problem in this exact radio. Or the one guy who fixed that problem went fishing that week. Well, I think it's high time somebody fixes usenet. Maybe when Hillary Clinton gets re-elected as our President, she'll skip the Gays in the Military and National Health Care nonsense and go for the really, really important stuff. The Special Sensitivity Usenet Posters Act. Then those people who reply with inexact answers will get almost what they deserve. Frank Dresser But IF, Bill gets in again then he is going to post good stuff to RR Gay and it will only apply to Gay's who use SW radios. But gays use shortwave radios. In China they have a wind up radio with out a display. rruB |
You didn't say anything about the radio getting wet (Radio Content)

It's often hard to get to the leak to patch the leak, but we Submariners get the job done. We have to. Land's often a long way away. |
