What did it sell for? ================================================== ========================= I had one of these back in the early 80s . It was a very decent little radio. I used it when I traveled. Its performance was very good IMO. Go see www.dxing.com/rx/cr2021.htm The Uniden at this review is the exact radio as the dx 400 except the 400 had a decent analog s meter instead of a bar graph on the 2021, except for that, its the same radio. RS originally sold the 400s for 279-289$ range. If you can get one for a good price in good order Id get it. It didnt have dedicated USB or LSB control, to get either one you had to use the bfo knob, but that worked fairly well. It had an antenna trimmer control that worked very well to tune signals. Also a 3 position rf gain sw. Biggest drawback,, no vfo control, just keypad entry or push button up- down control. Jeff |

I bought a new Uniden-2021 in 1984 for $99.00 from EEB (now defunct). The '2021' and DX-400 were loosely based on the original Sony-2001, which was the first fully synthesized portable with keypad entry. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

Thanks for the response, Jeff. I took a look at the one you directed me to.
Boy, the Uniden and the DX-400 don't look anything alike, but it says right there in black and white that they are similar. I don't know what to make of that. I also didn't know Uniden made radios for Radio Shack, but I can't remember much about the 80's. Thanks again, Jeff. If anyone else has any experience with the radio, I would appreciate additional comments. Harlan "Jeff Santee" wrote in message news:sIYpb.109310$Tr4.297562@attbi_s03... Harlan Except for the obvious difference in signal strength meters (mechanical vs. LED's) and the location of certain knobs, the two radios are electronically identical (inside). I have the schematic for the DX-400 and I've used it to work on my Uniden-2021. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

When was it produced? What did it sell for? The original product was the Sony ICF-2001. Later, Sony licensed the design to other Asian manufacturers, on of which produced a Radio Shack version. I bought my DX-400 in 1985 in Pontiac, Michigan for $65.00. I still use it. The RS version of the 2001 had many of the problems of the original corrected, except for the bizarre 3 kHz step interval. The Sony was famous for going through fresh set of "D" cells in a few hours. mdr -- The hits just keep on coming for poor "Nadine".
