Saturday, November 29
SCHEDULE CHANGE 1:00-4:00 am OFF THE AIR: We'll be off the air for a few
hours this Saturday night-Sunday morning so our engineers can do some
work on our transmitter. Feel free to talk amongst yourselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
(via Brian Davis, Dubuque, IA, NRC-AM via DXLD) Webcast off too??

Kewl! What's out there to be heard, all you non-Chicagoans? Not only on
720, but 710 and 730 as well; I can't afford a front-end good enough to
get close to WGN on an ordinary night. Hell, they can put 5 volts across
a staple at 100 miles.

710 will be a Cuban Miami station, or WOR NYC, judging from Central Ohio.

On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk.

Their new 3DX-50 is being commissioned.

(Not worded goofy at all, it's from the WGN site as an announcement of what's
happening on November 29.)

This was written more than 10 days ahead of the event and states " this
saturday", not " on this saturday". That's not goofy ?? Musta been an intern
writing it.

I taped them overnight, but either this didn't happen or it was very short and
I missed it. I did notice 'carrier only' for 10-15 secs a few times.

Please re-read the post! And pay very careful attention to the date!

Should we assume Central or Eastern time?

Since the notice was released by WGN itself, I'm sure that it's safe to assume that the times
given are Central Time.

But, if you need clarification, why not email WGN and find out. There is still time.

jw, I agree with you. "...this saturday..." is an unclear referent
and could as well refer to the Saturday before the 29th as to the 29th
itself. Therefore, j999w made an honest mistake and his post was an
honest observation which in no way deserved a captious rebuke.

Grumpus

Hot off the presses! I hope this happens since I'm off work and will happily
fill up the back pack with wire and take the Palstar R-30 out for a mini
DXpedition !

I sent an email to Jim Carollo, Director of Engineering at WGN, about the
silent period and this is the very quick reply he sent me.

======================
It will be Sunday morning, November 30, 1:05AM until 5. However, between
1:05 and 3 I may have a carrier on with test tone. The carrier is most
likely to be off from 3AM until 4:30AM. That's your best chance.

Jim
=======================

I then sent an email to the engineer at KOTZ, Alaska to see if they could do
a DX test during the silent period. If I recall correctly they did a test
about a year ago. I'm waiting on a reply.

I don't really want to take this any further, but c'mon... It clearly states the 29th and refers
to 'this Saturday night-Sunday morning...' That in reference to the 29th...

Nothing 'captious' about any comment I made at all, the announcement says what it says, clearly I
might add, at least for me, and I stand by my original comments. Others mileage and comprehension
may vary! Oh well...
