From BBC Monitoring:

Text of report in English by Radio Netherlands "Media Network" web site on
17 November

As widely reported, Danmarks Radio (Radio Denmark) will cease all short-wave
broadcasts on 31 December 2003. The Danish public broadcaster, which only
broadcasts to Danish expatriates, says that there's falling interest in the
short-wave service.

In recent years Radio Denmark has hired airtime on transmitters in Norway,
but Norwegian broadcaster NRK announced some months ago that its own
short-wave broadcasts would be discontinued. Since 1 January 2002 NRK has
only relayed domestic programming on short wave.

From 15 December 2003 Danmarks Radio will extend its Internet service by
offering Internet streams of all its regional programmes as well as the
national networks. In addition, from 1 January 2004, Danish expatriates will
be able to subscribe to a free service offering a CD every 14 days
containing 10-20 hours of radio programmes.

The sounds of the knell increase as the sounds of international shortwave
decrease.
Maybe it's time to dust of the telescope and check out the skies again.

I live down "South" and like to DX NY area MW. Recently streamed 77
ABC NY on the WEB. Clear as a bell. The cross roads have been
crossed. A good DX radio now is called a computer sad to say.

No, in the meantime the skies have become "light polluted".
