FO&A,

There are now about 32 Antenna Images/Drawings in the Photo Section of
this eGroup.

The 'latest' to be Added is the "Snake-in-the-Attic" Antenna.

? Two Questions ?

? Have 50-100 Feet of leftover 75 Ohm Coax Cable ?

? Restricted from placing an Antenna OutSide the home or building ?

Then Consider: The "Snake-in-the-Attic" Antenna.
= Using What You've Got.
= = Working Within Your Limits.
= = = Being Creative !

+ + + CAUTION: Be Careful and Watch Your Step in the Attic.

NOTE: Suspend the Antenna Element in the Open Space (Free Air) at the
Top of the Attic about 2-3 Feet from the Peak of the Roof.
- - - Do NOT 'lay' the Antenna Element directly on the floor of the
Attic; or directly against the under surface of the Roof.

Project Work Steps for the "Snake-in-the-Attic" SWL Antenna:

1. If the Coax Cable has and "F" Connector at both ends: Remove One
"F" Connector for the Coax Cable; this is now your Antenna
Element/Far-End.

2. Estimate/Measure and then Run/Route your Coax Cable "Down Lead-In"
from the Attic to your Radio/Receiver.
= = = This is usually 15-25 Feet.

3. In the Attic "Remove" a One (1") Inch Section (GAP) of the Outer
Insulation and the Coax Shielding: Do NOT Damage the Inner Insulation
and Center Conductor. Tape and Secure this "Gap".

4. In the Attic "Remove" a Two (2") Inch Section (GAP) of the Outer
Insulation and Create a Pig Tail of the Coax Shielding. The "Remove"
One (1") Inch of the Inner Insulation and expose the Center Conductor.
Twist the Shoelding Wires and the Center Conductors Wires "Together".
(Solder them is possible.) Tape and Secure this "Joint".

4. Run/Route the Antenna Element throughout the Attic to its Full
Size/Length. Twists and Turns are OK. (If you have to "Fold" the
Antenna Element back on itself: Keep the out and back sections 3-5
Feet apart. Keep the Antenna Element 2-3 Feet away from the Attic
Floor and the Surface of the underside of the Roof. Use Stand-Offs or
Nylon-Poly Rope to 'suspend' the Antenna Element in the Free Space
(Open Air).

5. Use a Coax Cable "Grounding Block" near the Radio/Receiver.
= = = Use the Shack's "Common" good earth Gounding Point.

6. The use a Short (3-6 Feet) Piece of Coax Cable from the Grounding
Block to the Radio/Receiver.

7. Feed the Radio/Receiver with a 75 to 300 Ohm Matching Transformer
to the HI-Z Terminals (Build your own 9:1 Matching Transformer for
better results below 5 MHz. Or, use a 'direct' "F" Connector to
PL-259 Plug to the SO-239 LO-Z Jack.

FWIW: This same basic "Snake" Antenna can be:

* Used on the outside of the Home/Building by 'routing' it out a
Window behind a Down Spout/Pipe and up to the Eaves. Then Suspended
under the Eaves as if it were a normal Cable TV Cable.

* Use directly on the Ground (Hence the Name "SNAKE") by 'routing' it
out a Window behind a Down Spout/Pipe and down to the ground.

* Used as a Camping / Travel Antenna with a few pieces of Nylon-Poly
Rope to 'suspend' the Antenna Element "High" in the Open Air.

All are Welcome to Visit and participate in the
