The only exception that I know of is the Satellit 800 which electronically is an old Drake design but which is made by Tecsun. I'm not sure if Grundig still actually exists or whether it like many old American brands is simply a name that is bought and sold. Since when is Grundig Werke GmbH (now Grundig Group) - founded by Max Grundig in 1945 in Germany- "American Brand???? Grundig headquarters are always situated in Germany! Grundig had always most of his factories around Nuernberg, in Bayreuth and elswhere in Germany. In 1965 opened a factory in Braga (Portugal), later in France, Wales, Malaysia etc. For example I've only some 3 years old Grundig TV made in Germany! The situation may changed so as in april 2003 Grundig declared itself bankrupt and is heavily restructured at the moment (http://www.grundig.com/presse.grundig/index.html) Only in North America some of Eton's (formerly Lextronix, Palo Alto, California) under licensing agreement produced items, like shortwave radios, are sold under the Grundig brand name. For Europe market situation is that most products come from Grundig old German factories still continuing working. (but eg YachtBoy 400 is produced in China for all markets, so it was actually designed in Grundig Germany). You can read about Grundig history from 1945 - 1997 (taken from an old Grundig website materials, not awailable anymore from Grindig itself) following this link: http://www.geocities.com/grundigradioboy/myhistory.htm About the current restructuring situation see: (http://www.grundig.com/presse.grundi...dig/index.html) (http://www.grundig.com/presse.grundi...tee/index.html) Nuremberg, 24th September 2003: Dr Siegfried Beck commented on the status of investor negotiations: “It remains the case, that no overall investor will come on board. The Grundig businesses HIS (Home IntermediaSystems), GCIS (Grundig Car InterMedia System), GBS (Grundig Business Systems) and SAT Systems will all be handed over to different investors. Whereas we have made significant progress with GCIS and have already signed an exclusivity agreement one potential investor, we still have various offers for the other areas to consider. We will now continue the process of concrete contract negotiations.” Tr |
