A caution about using headphones on SW. Because of possible static crashes and other sudden loud noises, especially when seeking weak signals, don't wear your phones completely over your ears. Professional radio operators and smart amateurs slide them off some, usually forward, but whatever works best. Years ago, while working on a marine receiver, and I was listening to SW (not LW), there was a loud pop, and my right ear became damaged. It took years for wax to keep from building up and blocking my hearing periodically, Even today, the hearing in my right ear begins rolling off around 10 kHz. I knew better than to fully cover my ears, but the shop was noisy and the phones had no cushions, so I had the things pressed to my ears.
