Terrible Reception Pacific Northwest
Anybody else experiencing absolutely awful reception conditions the past
couple nights? I'm in Oregon and stations I normally pick up loud and clear I can barely hear or not hear at all. Just a lot of white noise on all the bands...especially at 0200-0400 hours, when reception should be the best. I'm using two radios (Sony 2010 and Sony 7600GR) and get the same results with either. I live near several huge TV/radio towers and wonder if they've done something to start affecting my shortwave signals...first time its happened. Thanks for any input... Rob R |
YEP! after ~8:30 everything shut down...

Reception has been crappy lately up here in British Columbia. It
hasn't been up to much for quite a few months with the exception of the odd decent day. Bob |
Yeah, things have been quieter in New Zealand than usual. It's summer here
and we can usually here tons of US and South American and Australian CB DX. But only on the odd day lately. Maybe the ionosphere has been discontinued, due to lack of funding? C. MB,
Alas How Soon We Forget . . . You are once again in rare form. We will recognize or Enemies by there Fanaticism and Delusions. And Be Comforted by the Paranoia of Our Friends. Beware the OWLES: You Will Know Them By Their Spots ! who, Who. WHO! ~ RHF .. .. = = = ojunk (Michael Bryant) = = = wrote in message ... From: (RHF) = I Believe I will take the "MEDs" Everyone Says I Forgot to Take :o) * Fresh Air ! * Clean Water ! * Natural Whole Foods ! * Classical Music playing softly in the background ! bbgwtsgl ~ RHF = = = Blessed By God With The Simple Good Life ! . Is that what it takes to develop such a healthy paranoia of O.W.L.E.S. (one-world socialists)? Be careful, that classical music was probably written by a Russian and is probably being used to lull you into a false sense of complacency. "Fresh air" sounds like an attempt to besmirch the environmental accomplishments of our oil-drilling President. You need to be watched. I hope Ashcroft is listening. |

Bob That's been my impression here in the PNW too. I've been expecting lots of fine and tiny stations in the winter on my recently purchased (summer) R75, but this really hasn't been the case. Except for some 5-10 kw stations in Brazil I haven't got good copy from anything but the more powerful broadcasters. I've been waiting and waiting for the domestic Papua New Guinea stations to make an appearance but so far no joy. In the past my Sony 2010 captured the Aussie Alice Springs and her sisters but I'm also waiting for them to become available as well. North Korea was easy but recently is quite tough. Ditto for RHC Havana--- and I think they may be having transmitter issues on top of it all. Oh well. That's weird. I settled in for some nice tropical band listening last night around 0230 and all I heard was this loud hum. It was everywhere, it even wiped out WWCR on 3210. Nothing in the house is causing it. My neighbor has what I think is a mercury vapor light on all night, could that be it? |

Except the BBC on 5975, 6135 some nights, very weak on 6005 in the local evenings. I also hear R. Netherlands some nights very well for their hour at 8:00 local time (I believe). It seems like everything above the 5/6MHz band is just plain GONE in the evenings. chevyorange |
Just spent the week on the west coast of Vancouver Island DXing... well
trying to. Most nights it was wicked (that's a bad thing!) - way too much hum and/or white noise as reported. If anyone is aware of the Tofino/Ucluelet area you know that there's absolutely nothing between it and Japan. Don't understand the problem. Puzzling! Out of the blue one night I did get Radio Denmark clear as a bell, then it drifted. Perhaps the ionosphere isn't dead - it's just taking a break! Today I was listening to Radio Netherlands broadcast from Netherlands Antilles to Africa on 17810 fade in and out over a couple of hours time with the D level absorption event that occurred today while watching the data on this page update in real time. I leave in Seattle area I did notice a lot hum/buzz on 6 and 9 MHZ before
Christmas is improving now. I can receive Australia,New Zealand,BBC,Denmark,Bulgaria, Taiwan,Radio China regularly after Christmas. I will admit I use a 40' dipole antenna and a Welbrook Loop antenna. I you are using only a portable with wip antenna you probably be disappointed with reception. Most International transmissions are directed to 'eastern' North America. "AC Smith" wrote in message om... (Frank White) wrote in message ... In article , says...
