Someone please help me understand why the BBC
would do this. It completely eludes me. What possible
reason would they, or anyone, have for sanitzing
references to Saddam, or anyone else?
I don't get it.

Simple..... just like the english publication called "The Mirror",
it's an anti-american outfit that, at every possible oppurtunity,
want to derail our efforts and when that's not possible, simply
downplay our successes.

My guess is they're afraid of angering certain terrorist groups which
might retaliate against the UK for calling Saddam a dictator. It could
just be a defensive maneuver.

It's hard to be mad at someone who has been called mainly by his first
name for years. It's never happened before. "And on the Eastern front,
Adolph is stalled. Joseph, on the other hand, continues renovating the
gulags. Winston is keeping an eye on things"

See? it doesn't work.

Napoleon would have found this theory very interesting.

If you spent as much time shooting your enemies as you do shooting at out

Hussein is a common last name. Too, although King Hussein of Jordan is dead
now, using Hussein could have caused a mix up with him while he was alive.

Do You Know Me?.................................

This is why lawyers should never ask a witness a question, if they
aren't prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a small Texas town
prosecuting attorney called his first witness to the stand - a grand
motherly, elderly woman.

He approached her and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know me?

She responded, "Why, yes I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known
you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you've been a big
disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you
manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think
you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will
amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know
you."

The lawyer was stunned.

Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked,

"Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?"

She again replied, "Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he
was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking
problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone and his law
practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he
cheated on his wife with three different women. Yes, I know him."

The defense attorney almost died! At this point, the judge brought the
court room to silence, called both counselors to the bench, and in a
very quiet voice, said, "If either of you *******s asks her if she knows

me, you'll be jailed for contempt."

Laughing at your logic that the British are more reliable than the French
because the British have more criminal soccer hooligans! That's exactly where
my sense of humor is, as I sit here eating French fries and washing them down

Actually, soccer hooliganism simply proves that the average British soccer fan
is more likely to engage in illegal acts of hooliganism and vandalism. I still
don't see how this proves anything detrimental about the French.

But, RHF, I'm sure you'll drag the one-world socialists into the equation
somewhere!

Islamic militants have never cared for Hussein and are unlikely to seek
revenge. In spite of his heavy-handed, Stalinesque style of rule, he
ran a secular state in which women had more freedom than almost any
other Muslim coutry. They could drive, get an education, be doctors,
etc., and go out in public without a male relative two feet away from
them. They did not have to fear death if a strand of hair escaped the
hijab.

Muslim extremists dislike states like this and want to enforce a
Taliban-style social order.

I don't think the BBC has much to fear from calling Saddam a former
dictator. They may be trying to distance themselves from the Bush
propaganda machine, though.
