Hello all,
I am interested in purchasing my first shortwave radio and wanted to ask you all what brand and model you thought was best. I am looking to spend around $100 (US). I have looked at the Grundig S350 and it falls into my price range, but I'm not sure if there are better radios out there or not. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me. -Dave |

In order to get features that will make it more enjoyable to listen to
shortwave you may want to set your sights a little higher. You want something with the best rating for selectivity, good frequency coverage, single sideband capability and nice sound. You also want somethng that uses digital tuning and has good rated filtering. All of these things not only help with listening but also with identifying stations by reducing interference and noise. A good reference is Passport to Worldband Radio. You might even be able to find current copy in the library. Of course, once you have a good radio, you will want a good antenna, and passport has excellent advice in the department as well. Finally, Passport also gives invaluable information about who is transmitting S. V "David Herrold" wrote in message news:3%YIb.92580$VB2.203893@attbi_s51... Thanks for the input! There are so many different radios out there with so
many features it makes it a bit difficult to narrow down my options. -Dave "Diverd4777" wrote in message ... Yes, there are better radios out there and yes there are better portable radios out there. Whether you can do better for $100 new is a different question and problematical. If possible, I'd recommend trying to find a used Sony 7600G/GS, which shouldn't set you back any more than that and may be a bit less. |
