Was in Haiti in the 1970's, what a place! Soldiers or tontine Makut on

every
corner downtown.

One of the poorest places I'd ever seen. Quite depressing.

I think Haiti was the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere at one time.

Steve & DeWayne,

Whether it was the 'evil' Papa Doc or Baby Doc Dictators.
(Translation: Capitalist Ring-Wing Dictator-Murderer.)

- = O R = -

The 'good' ex-priest President for Life Mr Aristide.
(Translation: Socialist-Maxist Dictator-Murderer.)

Makes NO Difference to the Haitian People:

* They Still Live in Fear for their Lives and the Wellbeing
of their faimlies and friends.

* They Still are Poor.

* They Still are NOT Free for a Dictatorship.

Haitians flee Haiti to get ot Cuba )

A Cuba lands on the Beach at Miami and is an Honored Guest.
(Re-united with their friends and family in America.)

A Haitian land on the Beach at Miami and is Interned and Returned.
(Sent back to Haiti to Die.)

Two reasons..

1) Because there are so many Cubans here that form a very strong lobby.
2) Because of Castro being in charge of Cuba, and the resultant blockade the
US maintains on Cuba.

I'm sure you've heard of wet-foot/dry-foot.. if a Cuban national is caught
in the water, he is sent back, if on land, he stays..

DeWayne,

The Stated US Government Policy is that
the Cubans are Political Refugees;
and the Haitians are Economic Refugees.

Many however view the "Policy" as being Racially Biased:

Upper Class CUBANS are viewed as Euro-Hispanic
- - - = = = V = = = - - -
All HAITIANS are viewed as Afro-French

* Ask JFK and every president between him and our current President Bush.

* The Great Humanitarian Carter - Did NOT Change the Policy.

* Evidently Clinton - Did NOT Feel Their Pain !

* We all 'know' GWB is to Dumb to notice.
