Seems the Coast Guard wants to know what the vessels port of departure and destination were. Suspicious is that as soon as they told the guy that his lat/lon didn't match his reported position he was no longer to be heard from. |

Coming in here in Seattle area (15 mi east). Sailing vessel "Raven"
dismasted 75 miles east of Brownsville. There is a great deal of traffic in the vacinity, but they are uncertain of the person's location and it seems his battery is dying as his transmissions were tailing off and people were having a hard time reading him. His name is Lary. "Bob" wrote in message ... On ham freq 14300...right now. Bob/WF3H --------------------------- to see who "wf3h" is, go to "qrz.com" and enter 'wf3h' in the field |
My humble DX394 had it at 14299.1 . I too copied that coast guard
wanted his location because it was not jiving . "N8KDV" wrote in message ... N8KDV wrote: Bob wrote: On ham freq 14300...right now. Bob/WF3H Crap! I can't even get on frequency! 14300 14399... Diverd4777 wrote: In article , N8KDV - - as I said, garbled ., .. . .. another good " God Knows What " catch... The guy was there, but after one of the hams came on after consulting with the Coast Guard and finding out from them that his lat/lon did not match his stated position (the lat/lon that he gave would have put him north of San Antonio I believe) asked the sailing vessel 'Raven' what his port of departure was and port of destination. No response. The guy must have heard that his posit did not match. One ham came up a few minutes later and said it was suspicious that he gave a 'marine callsign' that did not match any known type of 'marine callsign'. Another thing is that during of his last transmissions, the vessel Raven stated he was at 9 volts, one of the hams later on said the transceiver probably was not capable of running at nine volts. So the vessel operator might have been faking that. His transmission sounded normal here. So, kinda suspicious at any rate. BUT the Coast Guard has a Falcon jet out looking, and there is a CG cutter in the vicinity. Steve Holland, MI Drake R7, R8 and R8B |
Are they still talking about it now? I can't hear it on 14300mhz at 0040

They've got a new net control station on the net, and I can copy him just fine now. He just called the 'Raven' again at 0103. Steve Holland, MI Drake R7, R8 and R8B |
