It's been a couple of weeks now since several people scored these
radios at a cheap price. I'm surprised more haven't shown up on eBay, although a couple have. This guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tegory=15 051 actually bought a couple from someone else for about $290 and is now trying to resell at least For others who bought them, what's your impression? While I love what they did in terms of miniaturization, I have to say I'm not knocked out by the performance. It's decent, but I don't think it's two bills (retail) better than a 7600GR. |

I was thinking about selling mine on eBay until I got it. I really like it
and I think it might become my primary travel radio. "T. Early" wrote in message ... It's been a couple of weeks now since several people scored these radios at a cheap price. How does this unit compare to the YB400 PE? Are they even in the same
league? Or is this just overpriced SONY stuff where you are paying for the name? Marc "T. Early" wrote in message ... FWIW, it's been discontinued. http://www.passband.com/pages/receivernews.htm But, in general, Sony shortwave products don't fit the "overpriced Sony stuff" mold. You could make a case, for example, that the Sony 7600GR is one of the best buys in shortwave at $150. Since I don't require a travel radio, the SW07 is a bit pricey for me on a cost/benefit basis at normal retail. |

Just lookinig at it, and the 7600 GR, I didn't think it ( SW07 ) was worth the price. I have a Sangan 606A and a AN-LP1 for travel; (BTW I still pick up interference from Man made sources, even with the electrical noise suppressor; may have to shield the entire radio ) I don't use sideband whilst travelling; more interested in Local MW DX, the stronger staions - so the SW07 lost it's appeal, especially at its high price, Sangean 606A works fine. I have a SW77, but I find it to be a pain to take along on long trips
involving air travel. "Diverd4777" wrote in message ... What is your Current travel Radio ?? In article 1EVRb.798$ay1.424@okepread05, "JIAW" writes: I was thinking about selling mine on eBay until I got it. I really like it and I think it might become my primary travel radio. |

I used my "Amazon SW07" as my primary radio while my ATS-909 was at
RadioLabs getting the "Super ATS-909" mods by Chris Justice -- oh man-- you ought to hear (and see) my 909 now! I'll post a review of these mods in the near future -- just want to spend a little more time getting used to the new capabilities. Anyway, my belief is that the SW07 is intended strictly as the ultimate traveler's radio. The ROM feature in this radio is a good example of what I mean. With the radio off, you put an easily movable cursor under your current time-zone on the world map above the display. The ROM then knows whether you need 9 or 10 khz stepping for MW (and sets it accordingly) and also programs the proper (and best) frequencies for the BBC, Deutch Welles, and three other major broadcast shortwave stations. That's not something you'd really need for a radio that's going to spend most of its life on your nightstand at home. Couple this feature with the amplified loop antenna that actually tunes itself as you tune various frequencies, and a Sync Detector that is MUCH better than the one on the Sony 7600GR, and you've got a way to listen to home -- wherever you are. The build quality reminds me of a Hewlitt-Packard calculator -- especially the push-buttons -- very solid, with no hint of being flimsy, even with the display open. That said, it's true, the speaker (though great for its size) is small, the volume control is a very small sensitive wheel, and there is no tuning knob -- just up/down buttons. This will not be your favorite radio to tune in SSB signals (for that reason). With headphones, it's great. Smaller than a CD walkman, but much cooler, and with very good FM stereo. AM Broadcast reception was amazingly good, but no match for my CCRadio+, except the Sync Detector on the SW07 did a better job minimizing interference. Anyway, that's pretty much my impression of the radio. I'm going to hang on to mine. -- Stinger "JIAW" wrote in message news:1EVRb.798$ay1.424@okepread05... Oddly enough, though I ordered mine quickly after the news
on the group about the super price, I never got it. I figured I had fallen into a grey area resulting from some kind of slop in their inventory accounting - early enough to get the order accepted, but apparently after they'd all run out. Tuesday I receive word that my order has just shipped, and sure enough at the low price. I don't have it yet, but USPS's tracking site says it arrived at my local post office this morning. Anyone else have a similar experience? Oz that On Wed, 28 Jan 2004 11:14:13 -0500, T. Early wrote: It's been a couple of weeks now since several people scored these radios at a cheap price. How does the SW07 synch detection compare to the 2010?
My SW100's is markedly inferior to the 2010 though better than the 7600G[R]. The test is what happens on weak signals. The 7600G generates noise and howls; the 2010's discreetly turns itself off and you don't notice it. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |
