No. As you have noticed, there are many assholes here who aren't
interested in answering your question. Don't waste your money on
shortwave. There isn't much to hear.

No don't waste your time with SW. As another poster said, local AM/FM
will provide many more hours of entertainment and without all the
static fading and noise.

Yet we still get assholes in here having wet dreams about some of the

rants while pretending not to be in love with the pastor.

GA,

Sound like a nice central location for Reception in general.

Because we are in the valley, highth of an antenna is especially
important for good distance reception. With a 60 to 80-foot tower,
you can expect to get more regular decent reception from Sacramento,
San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as Santa Barbara, San Luis
Obispo, and more. Back in the early 50's I remember two homes with
tall towers with a large tv anteena on each and was told they received
channels from both San Francisco and Los Angeles. That was before
they had any tv stations in the Fresno area.

A good radio is worthless without a good antenna but a crap radio attached
to a great antenna is still a crap radio. The antenna is likely to make it
worse as the radio will not have the dynamic range or rejection to avoid
overloading. Works great if you want to listen to all stations at the same
time. Don't even have to worry about the tuning knob.

RHF is just lucky to live within the signal areas of THREE markets-San
Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto, and
Salinas-Monterey. I live inland and am lucky to get channel 7 on a good
night. When I was a kid channel 36 used to be receivable inland but it's
not anymore. And every so often I could get KSBW on channel 8, but that
channel is occupied by a LPTV station in my area now (that plays yet
another home shopping channel).

Every so often a "classic" pair of headphones (not the "ear bud" things
but the big, enclosed type) comes up for sale at a local thrift store.
Next time I see a pair I'll grab them.

Yeah, but most of the rest is worse. A lot of domestic SW is at the Hal

Well, I'll say international shortwave was better years ago. Back in
the days when they had the radio hobby related programs.

I won't say domestic SW is boring, but I will say it's a matter of
taste. And knowing the backround of some conspiracy theories,
especially the Unified Conspiracy therory, makes it more interesting.

That's true, but most of today's SW listeners aren't hams (unlike back
then) and wouldn't appreciate that content.

My favorite is David Icke. No other major conspiracy theorist has the
"the ruling class are shapeshifting extraterrestrials" idea. Most
conspiracists just repeat each other, which is why everybody on WWCR
sounds the same. Icke has come up with new stuff, which takes a certain
level of smarts and guts.

Alex Jones dances around that one. He's said "George Bush has pointy
green eeeeeaaars. Didja ever notice that? I saw them on TV. I swear I
saw pointy greeeeeen eeeaaars."

Alex swings between being a rational sort of populist libertarian and
the king of kooks.

Anyway, I don't think the idea of shape shifting extraterrestrials is
totally David Icke's. The idea that the aliens are demons controlled by
Satan is very old. I don't know where the idea that the aliens are the
result of mixing genetic material from humans, reptiles and insects by
the people of Atlantis, but I don't think David Icke puts in those
terms.

It goes against human nature for a large conspiracy to hang together.
If all the large conspiracies are hanging together, it stands to reason
that the conspirators are something other than human. Aliens, demons,
humans under Satan's control. It's all the same basic idea.

And that's the subtext uniting Alex Jones, the Jerimiah 33-3 guy, James
Lloyd, Pastor David J. Smith, Texe Marrs and a few others. Although any
of them will disagree with the others on the exact details of the
conspiracy.
